Orbital ATK, an international aerospace firm began to experience rapid growth and was struggling to keep up with the demands of the growing business and its customers. Due to the surge of growth, the workforce was becoming more and more disgruntled, leading to poor morale of the organization, largely due to the poor quality of leaders. Knowing the development and retention of key leaders was vital to the success of the growing organization, the CEO approached Stewart Leadership seeking a solution for his top 200 senior leaders.
Stewart Leadership’s solution was to create a tailored series of leadership courses, specific to the needs of the growing organization as well as emphasizing the key leadership behaviors and priorities that were most important to the senior leadership team. Stewart Leadership’s approach was to interview the entire Senior Executive Team to identify what they believed the exact issues needing to be addressed were and to discover what the priorities and business goals that were most important to them. After rigorous interviewing and time spent one-on-one with each executive, Stewart Leadership customized over 30 modules to meet those needs. These tailor-made modules made up a course called Leadership Principles, taught throughout the entire organization’s top leaders in 2 separate sessions consisting of 5 total days of small group coaching, team exercises, competitive learning activities, teaching, and homework. This was accomplished through the use of Stewart Leadership’s Coaching Cards, Award winning Book Series, LEAD NOW! Model and the associated Individual Action Planning Workbook and Self Assessment.
The Leadership Principles course is currently in its third year and 7th round of classes, taking over 250 of the top leadership of the organization through the program. The Leadership Principles course as become an is an ongoing program and serves as the organization’s foundational program to develop results-driven leaders.
Significant improvement can be seen in the performance of the workforce, the attitude of the leaders from the top down, as well as an increased retention rate and the overall morale.
